Cycles:rika is intended to be a personal procession / ritual that the performer guides themselves, the instrument and the audience through.
Intended as the first piece of a cycle, my idea was to work out a piece that is an improvisation with a compositional and formal foundation. It is written as a graphic score that is to be practiced 2-3 times and then performed freely.
Incorporating only very reduced material, it works with microtonal shifts through extensive use of a bottleneck on the instrument's strings, some preparations and vocalizations.
The initial performance of the piece took place at Auditorium in Bern by Rei Nakamura.
