Listen to an excerpt
Heer ohne Helden by Anna Gmeyner 1929:
In the “Jenny” colliery in the Scottish mining district, a mining accident occurs. A gas explosion has caused the tunnel to collapse. Underground, the injured miners remain beside the dead; above ground, the women and the elderly wait for the company management to rescue the men. Questions arise: Who is to blame for the disaster? How should one respond to it? What can be hoped for in the future? First performed in 1929, the play raises existential questions.
The music was performed live together with my colleague Nicolas Speda on a multichannel system. Creating an eerie atmosphere, rumbling and noises coming from every corner, even playing the music ourselfes we had goosebumps!
Director: Zino Wey
Scene: Moïra Gilliéron
